A Dual-Scale Vision for Urban Renewal and Cultural Revival

This proposal operates on two scales: the Urban and the Human.

At the Urban Scale, it envisions transforming Genova’s spaces into interconnected environments that prioritise inhabitants’ needs, reduce car dominance, and turn obstacles into opportunities. By reconfiguring roads, revitalising abandoned areas, and reimagining the market structure, it creates vibrant, mixed-use spaces that celebrate Genova’s heritage while embracing its evolution. Abandoned plots are repurposed into dynamic developments, and pedestrian hubs act as gateways to the city’s parks, fostering community and connectivity.

Inspired by Rem Koolhaas, a graphical exploration reimagines urban spaces as a linear sequence. This unwrapping of THE LOOP offers the perspective of a pedestrian experiencing each space as part of a cohesive journey.

At the Human Scale, the CONSERVATORIO DI GENOVA serves as a gateway to the larger plot—a beacon of cultural enrichment and community revival. Shielded from the city’s density, it provides spaces for all ages to gather, celebrating art, music, and community. Housing a music school, studios, rehearsal rooms, and a theatre, it fosters creativity and collaboration while empowering residents to embrace their neighbourhood’s cultural heritage.

The recital hall’s back-of-house spaces highlight the project’s attention to functionality and design. Filtered natural light ensures low-light conditions required for performances, blending practicality with elegance.
